Bullying, Respect, and Accountability

Mission and Vision

What Don't Be THAT Guy exists to do: a learning hub for recognising harm, encouraging accountability, and connecting awareness to action.

"Read this if…" you want to understand what Don't Be THAT Guy is trying to do — and what kind of change we believe is possible.

At Don't Be THAT Guy (DBTG), we believe that lasting change begins with understanding. Bullying, intimidation, harassment, and harmful behaviour do not happen in isolation. They are often rooted in misunderstanding, fear, anger, insecurity, or a lack of awareness.

Our purpose is to educate, challenge assumptions, and encourage people to recognise harmful behaviour before it causes lasting damage.

Mission

Our mission is to provide a trusted learning hub that helps people understand bullying and harmful behaviour from every perspective.

We aim to:

  • Help people recognise the signs of bullying, harassment, and emotional harm.
  • Educate victims, bystanders, parents, teachers, employers, and even those who bully, with practical, evidence-based information.
  • Encourage empathy, accountability, and healthier ways to resolve conflict.
  • Inspire people to take positive action when they see someone being harmed.
  • Point people toward organisations and professionals who can provide support when more than information is needed.

We believe that knowledge alone does not solve bullying — but it is often the first step towards preventing it.

DBTG is a learning hub, not a crisis service. When someone needs hands-on help, schools, employers, helplines, trusted adults, and specialist organisations still matter most. Our job is to help people recognise harm, think clearly, and know what kind of help to ask for.

Vision

Our vision is a community where harmful behaviour is recognised earlier, challenged more often, and replaced with empathy, respect, and responsibility.

We do not expect to eliminate bullying entirely. Instead, we hope to create thousands of small moments where someone chooses kindness instead of cruelty, intervention instead of silence, and understanding instead of judgement.

If every article, conversation, or shared resource helps just one person make a better choice, then together those choices can create meaningful change.

How you can help

Creating a safer and more compassionate community is something none of us can do alone.

If you would like to support our mission, we would love to hear from you.

We welcome:

  • Educators, psychologists, counsellors, coaches, and other professionals willing to share their expertise.
  • Writers and researchers who can help create informative, accessible educational content.
  • Organisations that would like to collaborate on awareness and education initiatives.
  • Individuals who want to help spread reliable information and encourage respectful communities.

When someone needs direct support, we believe they should be able to find it quickly. That is why DBTG is being built to work alongside trusted organisations and initiatives such as Lantern — helping people move from awareness to action when the need arises. Learning lives here; routing to the right support lives there.

Together, we can help more people recognise harm — and encourage more people to choose compassion.

Editorial note

The ideas, editorial direction, and review of the articles on DBTG are led by our team. We use modern writing and editing tools — including AI — to help improve clarity, readability, and accessibility. Every article is reviewed before publication to ensure it reflects our values and the message we intend to share.

If you spot something that does not sound right, we would rather hear about it than leave it uncorrected.
